You Never Know What You’ll Learn

I’m a people person. I’ll go anywhere, meet anyone and get along with anyone. I wouldn’t have the business I have today if it weren’t for the connections I’ve made over my life. Social networking is the best way to obtain a wealth of connections and information.

Networking is a huge social element behind a business. Networking isn’t just meeting people; it’s relying on people and trusting them for times when you need them most. I don’t know any astronauts, but I can certainly find one after a few calls to people in my network.

Trade shows, networking events, social gatherings – these are all great places to network and meet people. Networking is also a great way to get exposure and get your face out in your industry. People recognize me before they recognize my brand; and that’s why both my brand and I now have separate Facebook accounts – so we can each network.

Naturally, networking isn’t all fun and games. For many, meeting someone new is extremely shying and difficult, and others don’t want to be called out of the blue to divulge their astronaut friend’s name. But if you are honest, and polite, with a great reputation, there’s no reason people wouldn’t want to talk to you. I always like to start with eye contact. Eye contact can indicate whether the person is approachable or not.

Many people are just as shy as you are, and will avoid eye contact for the life of them – which is when I always just blurt something out. Networking is a great way to make new friends!

So go out there and don’t be shy – meet everyone you can, even if they aren’t in your specific field. You never know what you’ll learn.
