I really believed 7 years ago when I was doing cross promotions with Jamba Juice, Magnolia Bakery, Tarte Cosmetics, etc, that that was the wave of the future. What I found out is that the magic in your business and brand is you and your unique POV (point of view).
Combining forces is great, but speaking directly to your audience is much more impactful and doesn’t water down your message. I really believe that by focusing on your own vision, you also focus your team’s attention on the goal at hand and not split the resources, energy and commitment.
I have a few ideas for Apple, and yes I have cold called the CEO, but I am a year older and hopefully a year smarter and I’m going to innovate myself; let my innovation bring those types of collaborations and partnerships to me verses trying to project my Intel and sell my mission statement.
I whole-heartedly believe in what I’m doing now, and collaborating with your internal team or just with your own idea to get it to the next level is enough. Don’t think you need a fortune 500 company to help you. If anything, it could be a hindrance.
