Men’s fashion designer Gobel and GMHC

Alternate Text

Gobel began in the fashion industry nine years ago working with designers Thom Browne and Michael Bastian, where he learned a great deal from the fashion icons. He launched his own brand in Fall of 2009, where his shows at Park Avenue Armory and Four Seasons were wildly successful, launching him further into the world of fashion proficiency.

He is inspired by anything he sees and anyone he meets. It has been said that his excitement for fashion is addictive, his ability to see style and glamour in anything is inspiring. He has since positioned himself in New York City and is rapidly becoming a monumental force in the future development of men’s fashion. Below, he answers a few questions for dot429 as he gears up for Fashion Forward this Thursday.  More details about the event can be found below the interview.

Why do you do what you do?
I want to create things that make people feel cool and confident, so their focus is on living in the moment.

Which quality or talent makes you most successful?
I try to find glamour and beauty in anything.

Who are the three people who most inspire you and why?
I find myself surrounded by people that inspire me… that’s why I moved to New York City.

What are you most passionate about?
My intention with each collection is to ‘create a memorable moment.’ Runway shows only happen twice a year, so designers better give people clothes and a show worth seeing.

What drives you to succeed?
It’s my desire to tell a new fashion story each season and getting to collaborate with other talented designers and artists that keeps me going.

What is your most memorable/favorite/most accomplished design?
Every garment I make has meaning for me, so everything I make is memorable.

Why did you become involved with Fashion Forward and GMHC?
I truly believe in GMHC’s mission of education to end the AIDS epidemic, and their support and care for the lives of all affected.

What’s next for you?
I’m focused on telling a strong fashion story for Autumn/Winter 2012 and maybe a few surprises along the way!

ABOUT GMHC’s Fashion Forward

When the world’s top modeling talents donate their time to shoot a spot for a benefit event, you know it’s going to be big.

For one unforgettable night, you can rub shoulders with fashion’s elite all the while making a difference for those living with HIV and AIDS. Fashion Forward, benefiting Gay Men’s Health Crisis, is a premier fall event where leaders of the fashion community, philanthropists, celebrities, retailers and the media come together to support a great cause. Irrepressible style guy Brad Goreski and “Reed Between the Lines” star Tracee Ellis Ross will co-host the evening, which includes a cocktail reception, auction, award presentation and runway show – featuring Chris Benz, Thom Browne, Marlon Gobel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sally LaPointe, Zang Toi, Timo Weiland and VPL.
