Sally LaPointe dresses Lady GaGa

Alternate Text

With her studios located in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York, star clientele like Lady Gaga in love with her designs, and an honored place in GMHC’s Fashion Forward, it’s certainly safe to say that Sally LaPointe has arrived.

Taking the fashion world by storm with her futuristic designs, as unique and original as they are tasteful and forward thinking, LaPointe is enjoying a successful trajectory. At the young age of 26, her debut collection was shown at New York’s Fashion Week in the spring of 2011.

In preparation for the upcoming show, LaPointe takes the time to answer a few questions for dot429. More information about the event itself and a link to purchase tickets can be found below the interview. It’s not a night to miss.

Why do you do what you do?
Because I have listened to my inner self and followed the arrows.

Which quality or talent makes you most successful?
Decisiveness and dedication.

Who are the three people who most inspire you – and why? What inspires you in general?
In general, strength inspires me the most. That is why Sarah Adelson (my business partner) is the most inspiring person to me. No one pushes me and believes in me more than her, maybe because she has to, but in doing so she has forced me to become a stronger person. I would also say photographer Lillian Bassman, for her ability to see things in a different view. And Carmen Dell’Orefice for her modesty and class.

What are you most passionate about?
Connecting with people on an emotional level with my work, having them understand my story and interpreting it in their own way.

What drives you to succeed?
Saying that I am going to do something.

Lady Gaga is a fan of your work. How does that feel? Who else are you most proud to have dressed?
Yes, it feels amazing, she and her team have been great to work with. I feel very fortunate that she has taken such a liking to the clothing. I am also proud to have dressed Lykke Li, Eleanor Jackson from La Roux, Iman, and Amy Poehler.

If you could choose the three words that other people describe your work as, what would they be?
Modern, feminine, aggressive.

Why did you become involved with Fashion Forward and GMHC?
Being asked to be part of this event was a huge honor for me, and being able to give my support to such a great cause is incredible humbling.  Not only have I gained more knowledge myself on the GMHC, in being a part of the event with such other great designers I believe it will be a huge success.  Working with everyone on the team and touring the GMHC headquarters has been an eye opening experience, and I am looking forward to seeing every ones hard work all come together on the 17th!
