The holidays are upon us – and so is the annual avalanche of A Christmas Carols and Nutcrackers. Yet each of our major gay-tropolitan areas offers its own alternatives to yet another evening with Tiny Tim and the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Beach Blanket Babylon, now in its 37th consecutive year, is San Francisco’s entertainment juggernaut of song, dance, satire — and outrageous hats. BBB just launched its holiday version, which once again follows Snow White on her around the world search for her prince.
Along the way she encounters song-belting characters including Glinda, Mr. Peanut, King Louis, and a host of current pop culture icons and politicos such as Oprah, Elvis, the Clintons, Obamas, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, and a slew of Republican presidential candidates.
The finale pushes the fast-paced revue into the holiday season with dancing Christmas trees and other delights. Whether you’ve seen it in the past, or never had the wacky pleasure, the constantly updated extravaganza is more than worth a holiday visit.

The annual drag recreation of The Golden Girls: The Christmas Episodes features San Francisco dragsters Heklina, Cookie Dough, Matthew Martin and Pollo Del Mar as TV’s favorite quartet of Floridians.
This year the cult hit moves from its storefront venue into the vintage vaudeville Victoria Theater, boasting new costumes and more elaborate sets, running from December 1-23.
Anyone who finds tickets to The Golden Girls: The Christmas Episodes in their stocking, is certain to “thank you for being a friend.”
