Men can now be raped, according to the FBI

Attorney General Eric Holder announced Friday that the FBI has changed its definition of rape to include male victims. For the last hundred years the Federal Bureau of Investigation has defined rape as, “carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.”

The new definition of rape eliminates the requirement of force, includes anal and oral sex and allows that men can be raped. It reads,”Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”

A “Rape is Rape” campaign by the Feminist Majority Foundation put pressure on the FBI and produced 160,000 emails supporting the change of definition.

Because the federal definition was so narrow, much narrower than most states, federal rape statistics were woefully underreported.

The federal Uniform Crime Report, said there 84,767 sexual assaults reported in 2010. But more than 80 percent of police departments said the federal definition of rape was outdated and failed to accurately reflect the number of rapes nationwide.
