Gay Marine’s homecoming kiss goes viral

By Anna Peirano

Sgt. Brandon Morgan, returning from tour in Afghanistan, shared a passionate welcome home kiss with his partner Dalan Wells. The photo of the embrace has gone viral after it was posted on Saturday on the Gay Marines’ Facebook page.

As of today, the image has gained nearly 20,000 likes. It has gained 3,800 shares. Over 4,000 comments have been made on the photo. Morgan has said of all the attention, “I’m glad I can be an inspiration to someone. Thank you so very much for sharing my story.”

He wrote on the blog of Joe.My.God, thanks to “everyone who has responded in a positive way. My partner and I want to say thank you… as for the haters, let ’em hate.”

Last December, two female officers shared what the Navy said was the first-ever “first kiss” by a gay couple at a ship’s homecoming.

Both of these events and those that have not been publicly recognized were made possible by the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell last September, allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly and proudly in the military.

The video below is a quick holiday greeting recorded by Morgan in December of 2011 while stationed in Afghanistan.
