City Council Speaker Christine Quinn announced plans for the first annual 12 day, five borough event to showcase New York City design.
The event will run from May 10, 2013 to May 21, 2013 and include architecture, graphic design, fashion design, product design and manufacturing, industrial design, interior design, interaction design and landscape and urban design. Quinn and her colleagues hope to boost the economy with interest in honoring the talent in New York.
“NYCxDESIGN will help demonstrate that New York City is the design capital of the world,” Quinn said in a press release. “All five boroughs are home to a staggering amount of design talent in a wide range of disciplines, and this inaugural, city-wide event will help harness this potential and turn it into a tool for economic growth. I’m thrilled to provide the necessary platform to showcase both emerging and established designers as well as design schools and institutions and look forward to celebrating local design this May.”
Quinn is the first woman and openly-gay person to hold the City Council position and the first to run for mayor of New York City. She is also the director of the Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence Project, which helps to fight against hate crimes.
