DC Comics releases statement addressing concern over anti-gay hire to pen Superman series

In response to protests concerning DC Comics hiring of anti-gay author Orson Scott Card to pen the next installment of the Adventures of Superman series, the company has stated, “As content creators we steadfastly support freedom of expression, however the personal views of individuals associated with DC Comics are just that—personal views—and not those of the company itself.”

At present, the plan for Adventures of Superman is to publish as scheduled, and Orson Scott Card remains on staff as its writer. At least one retailer is refusing to carry the printed version of the comic, and a petition protesting its association with Card is circulating the internet; its goal of 15,000 signatures is well underway.
