Claudia Friedman and Christy Stewart came home last Saturday night to find that their motorcycle had been vandalized and left with a message next to it saying, “Fuck you move your dike bike now.”
As if the message wasn’t enough, the couple, who reside in Houston, Texas were left with the motorcycle covered in animal feces and urine.
The pair have lived in the complex for three years without any major complaints or incidents and reported that they were shocked to find themselves victims of what police are investigating as a hate crime.
There are no suspects nor surveillance footage of the incident. The women say they have their suspicions of a few people who could have done it based on dirty looks they received in the past and because the handwriting looks familiar.
The couple has the support of fellow neighbors. “Everyone has been very supportive and disgusted,” Stewart said in an interview with the Dallas Voice.
In response to the anti-gay message, the couple responded by not only leaving their motorcycle parked, but by also putting up their own message that read, “To the immature vandals…we are NOT moving our bike.”
According to the Dallas Voice, Houston has the second highest rating of hate crime incidences against the LGBT community in Texas, a number that has been on the rise since 2010.
