Puerto Vallarta announces gay pride celebration

Puerto Vallarta, already known as a gay destination, has announced their first official gay pride celebration, to be held this year.

The three day party will be May 24-26. Events will include beach parties, commitment ceremonies, fashion shows and, of course, a parade.

According to a press release obtained by 429Magazine, the City’s Tourism Department at City Hall, led by Director Carlos Gerard and Sub-Director Enrique Tovar, aim to increase tourism to the city. Puerto Vallarta has made the Huffington Post’s top LGBT honeymoon destination, is a member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, and has been a preferred LGBT destination in the Americas for over 60 years.

“The 3-day event was created to celebrate the unique and all-inclusive culture that has flourished in Puerto Vallarta, successfully integrating the rich traditions of the Mexican culture with the varied ideas that have been introduced to the local community from its large expatriate community from all corners of the world including the US and Canada, and as far afield as Asia, Russia and Europe,” organizers said in the press release.

The parade and block party will end the celebration on Sunday. With the success that LGBT events have brought to places like Palm Springs, who saw 14 million dollars in revenue in 2011 from their LGBT events, Puerto Vallarta hopes to see a similar turnout.
