Anti-gay radio host Dave Daubenmire continues rant

Dave Daubenmire interviewed leader and founder of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) Peter LaBarbera last week on his radio show, The Coach. The conversation between the two anti-gay figures struck some controversial cords regarding homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

429Magazine conducted a follow up interview with the host.

During the show, LaBarbera said he believes it is evidence enough that homosexuality is linked to sexually transmitted diseases and violence to prove that God believes homosexuality is wrong.

“If it really is a detestable behavior as God says, you’d expect it to be linked disproportionately to disease, we see lots of gay-on-gay violence, domestic violence,” LaBarbera said. “There’s no logic to the liberal left, they are all about doing whatever the homosexual movement wants, it is like spoiled children but nobody wants to say no to them.”

In the follow up with 429Magazine, host Daubenmire said, “I know that if Peter says it, he has the stats to back it up,” regarding the belief that disease and domestic violence in the gay community is a sign from God. “I don’t believe God ‘gives’ people disease. I believe that the disease comes upon a person as a result of their actions.

“Anal sex is unhealthy for two humans regardless of the gender,” he continues. “Multiple partners are dangerous regardless of the gender. Unhealthy behavior leads to physical consequences regardless of the gender.”

Simply put, “I believe that homosexual behavior is sinful and unhealthful,” said Daubenmire.

Daubenmire also believes the institution of marriage is meant for a man and a woman, and if discrimination exists, it is shared by heterosexuals unable to marry multiple partners, or family members.

He explains, “Marriage was originally called ‘matrimony.’ ‘Matri’ means mother, ‘-mony’ means to make. The purpose of marriage is procreation.  The fact that heteros have screwed up marriage does not make it something that it is not, nor never can be. Two members of the same sex can never ‘become one’ nor procreate.”

“There is no discrimination in marriage laws,” he continues. “I can’t marry a man, and neither can a gay man marry a man. However, we are both free to marry a woman.”

He explains, “The argument is not about marrying the ‘one you love.’ No one can always marry the one he loves. I can’t marry my daughter, or my son, or two women. We make value judgments about marriage all of the time. If men can marry men, thereby redefining the meaning, who is to say that marriage can’t be whatever consenting adults want it to be – no limitations.”

“To say that a man cannot marry three women is judgmental and hateful, according to much of the logic I hear,” he said.

Daubenmire was for 25 years a high school football coach, who was sued by the ACLU in the late 1990’s for mixing prayer with his coaching.

“After a two year battle for his 1st amendment rights and a determination to not back down, the ACLU relented and offered coach an out of court settlement,” reads Daubenmire’s biography on his website. “God honored his stand and the ACLU backed off. Coach’s courageous stand, an inspiration to Americans everywhere, demonstrated that the ACLU can be defeated.”

After that experience, he “heard the call to move out of coaching a high school team” and decided he was meant for “the job of coaching God’s team.”
