Leonardo DiCaprio donates to GLAAD


Film star Leonardo DiCaprio donated a large sum of money to GLAAD during the LGBT media organization’s 24th annual Media Awards in Los Angeles last weekend. The Inception star reportedly gave $61,000.

“It’s been a big year for #LGBT issues,” DiCaprio tweeted. “I’m very proud to be at #GLAADAwards tonight to support their important work.”

Bidding $14,000 for a Marilyn Monroe photo during a silent auction from the Andrew Weiss gallery, he proceeded to bid $22,000 for an African Safari by Micato Safaris.

According to E! News, “the four-night, five-day safari includes two round-trip business elite tickets from Delta airline, as well as accommodation at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti.”

DiCaprio also donated $25,000 to GLAAD’s National Spokesperson and Strategic Giving Officer Wilson during a pledge drive.

While at the awards, the J.Edgar actor presented the top entertainment attorney to Steve Warren.

Hosted by Drew Barrymore, other presenters at the awards show were Tobey Maguire, Matt Bomer, Elle Fanning, Betty White, Chris Evans, Matt Bomer, Bill Clinton, Mary Steenburgen, Ted Danson, Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson.

The next GLAAD Awards event will take place in San Francisco on May 11.
