Glee is too gay, says Media Research Center

A conservative research group attacked the television series Glee for promoting a “gay agenda.” By naming its setting William McKinley High School, the Media Research Center (MRC) deemed it a “insult” to the former American president and labeled it “the World’s Gayest School.”

“It’s no secret that ‘Glee’ frequently and flamboyantly pushes a gay agenda,” MRC Spokesperson Andrew Collins wrote in the organization’s site.

“So many characters play for the other team it’s hard to believe that there’ll be any future generations of McKinley High students to mock the Bible and cheer on transgendered [sic]performers. But as this season prepares to wrap up this week, things are heating up on ‘Glee.’ Last week’s episode featured a particularly large dose of gay.”

Collins provided examples of degrading President McKinley’s legacy with a female character “intimated” by two gay men and a gay couple as “more-than-subtly flirts.”

“Pity William McKinley. Our 25th president was a Civil War hero who successfully prosecuted the Spanish-American War and presided over a booming economy. For his trouble, he was assassinated. Adding insult to injury, he’s the namesake of The World’s Gayest High School,” Collins continued.

Collins commented that a gay man’s father turns down a request for marriage as an allegory to the efforts of marriage equality.

“And finally, in the most overt display of all, Blaine asks Kurt’s father for his son’s hand in marriage. His father is all in favor of the institution, those who support gay marriage are on the right side of history, he says,” Collins concluded.

“However, he says no because, like most parents these days, he believes high school is a bit too young for someone to be proposing. If anything, his refusal builds the legitimacy of gay marriage even more because he emphasizes the seriousness and permanence of marriage.”

The American Decency Association previously condemned Glee for “promoting homosexuality” and “illicit sexuality.”

Glee Creator Ryan Murphy is openly gay and his shows usually involve gay characters and numerous LGBT storylines. Along with his other LGBT-centric show, the New Normal, Glee was nominated for their positive LGBT portrayals by GLAAD.
