Rap star Eve continues to show support for gay artists

Rapper Eve commends Frank Ocean for coming out in the hip-hop industry.

“Frank Ocean was ridiculously brave, to do what he did, to be true to himself in that way. In hip-hop, there are a lot more people that probably should come out,” Eve said in an interview with Gigwise.

She went on to show surprise regarding the positive reaction Ocean received.

“I was shocked and happy about how people were and it made me think that maybe things were changing and people are more accepting of things.”

Ocean came out as bisexual in an open letter on his Tumblr last year. Just before the release of his official debut album Channel Orange, he divulged that he was in love with a man when he was 19.

“More hip-hop stars should admit they’re gay,” Eve said.

It has been 11 years since the release of her last album, and the BET Best Female Hip Hop Artist nominee is ready to be back in the game. Currently promoting her new album, Lip Lock, the compilation includes collaborations with Missy Elliot, Snoop Dogg, Dawn Richard, and Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship.

Eve will be headling at an Eden Pride event later this month in San Francisco.
