Fox News presenter claims “every fear” about marriage equality has come true

On Monday, former governor of Arkansas turned Fox News presenter Mike Huckabee said that “every fear” has come true in regards to marriage equality; one less than earth-shattering example he gave was “television commercials portraying same sex couples.”

According to the Right Wing Watch, Huckabee made his statements while he was on the radio station Concerned Women of America (CWA) for an interview promoting a campaign reaching out to young Americans who oppose marriage equality and abortion.

Huckabee said he believes love is “not the issue” in same sex marriage. Instead, he suggests marriage equality is the reason for all of the extra attention gay couples are receiving in commercials.

Huckabee then suggested, of course, that marriage equality damaged rights. He made another example of marriage equality forcing businesses to change their conduct but citing concern over cases such as Arlene’s Flowers. The flower shop received much negative criticism after refusing to provide flowers to a gay couple for their wedding.

While speaking to CWA’s head Penny Nance, Huckabee ranted that “The very thing that many people and I know CWA was a part of this, saying, this is why the legalization of same-sex marriage is going to be a much bigger issue than just saying we let people love whoever they want to love, that’s not the issue.”

Huckabee’s tirade continued, “Will it force businesses — of course everyone will say, oh no people still have their rights, but they don’t. And every fear that people had has in fact come true, that this is being forced in textbooks on how marriage is depicted, we’re now even seeing television commercials portraying same-sex couples, that’s something I guess I didn’t expect to see anytime soon.”
