Miley Cyrus supports Disney’s upcoming inclusion of lesbian couple on popular sitcom

Miley Cyrus, former Disney Channel child star, tweeted her support of the network for planning an episode of a popular sitcom featuring a family with two moms.

Last week, the Disney Channel announced that an upcoming episode of “Good Luck Charlie” would feature a storyline involving a lesbian couple and their child.

The couple will only appear in one episode as a secondary story line. It is set to air in early 2014 as part of the popular sitcom’s final season.

According to reports, Cyrus learned of the development from a tweet by bisexual actress Evan Rachel Wood, who simply said “Hell yea” in response to the news.

Cyrus tweeted her own reaction to nearly 12.5 million fans, and said “Is this true?!?!?! I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation. They control…so much of what kids think! Life isn’t bright sets & wardrobe & kids becoming superstars! This is INSPIRING.”

Upon making the announcement last week, the Disney Channel made sure to acknowledge the step they were taking.

“This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors,” a Disney Channel spokesperson said. “Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.”

One Million Moms has yet to weigh in on the discussion.
