Dubbed the “biggest drag king competition in the world,” the 18th Annual SF Drag King Contest will feature a night of untold debauchery with a plethora of varied artists including gender illusionists, film stars, burlesque legends, mud wrestling, and more. Taking place August 17, the event is produced and co-emceed by Fudgie Frottage. Sharing the stage with him will be co-emcee Sister Roma of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
“This ‘only in San Francisco’ annual event is a sizzling summer night of swaggering cockitude exhibiting the Bay Area’s renown cornucopia of Sex and Drag and Rock & Roll,” says the event’s press release.
The contest will benefit PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support), with partial proceeds going to the volunteer-based organization providing for companion animals for low-income individuals with HIV/AIDS.
Producer Fudgie Frottage told 429 Magazine in regards to “the defeat of Prop 8…it is vital to move forward but not to forget where we came from.”
This year, in event of its 18th anniversary, the SF Drag King Contest will feature performances from past SF Drag King winners – with everything from Prince impersonations to old school hip hop. The contest itself will be judged on “talent, creativity, studliness, sex appeal, originality, humor, make-up/facial hair and fashion,” and they are still looking for contestants.
