An openly gay gymnast will join the US Men’s Senior National Team; Josh Dixon has earned his tenth place all-around performance during the P&G Gymnastics Championships.
“It was a good competition to see where I stack up against the rest of the field,” Dixon said in an interview with Outsports. “It’s the first meet we’ve had where all of our top athletes are there healthy and competing. And it’s great to know that I’m in the top ten, hopefully on my way to the top five. It will help me dig deep during those tough practices and see that I have the potential to be a top contender within USA Gymnastics.”
Dixon finished in the top nineteen in every event except for parallel bars, while winning sixth place in floor exercise and high-bar. Dixon is now one of fifteen athletes who may possibly represent the United States in the international competition.
During his training last year, Dixon publicly came out to OutSports. While making it to the finals, he did not make it to the Olympics team. His goal will be to compete in the 2016 Olympics, as he has been training with the US Olympic Training Center for a while.
