Cooper on Robertson’s AIDS rings: “I’ve never seen that section at Zales”

In the latest edition of Anderson Cooper’s Ridiculist, Pat Robertson gets a healthy serving of gay whit-lash for his AIDS-ring accusation, with an extra serving of public shaming to boot.

In case you missed it, Robertson claimed that gays in San Francisco wear rings that cut people’s hands in order to give them AIDS on an especially enlightening episode of the Christian Broadcasting Network’s 700 club last Tuesday August 27.

“You know what they do in San Francisco?” said Robertson on the show, “some in the gay community there, they want to get people. So if they got the stuff [AIDS] they’ll have a ring, you shake hands and the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger.”

“Really?” asked Anderson Cooper on the ‘Ridiculist’ segment of his show last night.

“A ring that somehow gives you AIDS? I’ve never seen that particular section at Zales.”

“Now I totally get why Pat Robertson is against same-sex marriage,” continued Cooper, he just doesn’t want to give gay men an excuse to wear rings.”

Apparently the Christian Broadcast Network isn’t a big fan of Robertson’s AIDS ring idea either. The network has removed the clips where Robertson mentions the gay rings from their website, and has also successfully removed the clip from Youtube and Vimeo, though you can still watch it on Right Wing Watch.

The Atlantic Wire has posted a full transcript of the 700 club where Robertson makes the remarks, just to make sure you get every possible chance to become enlightened by his wisdom.

In a statement to the Atlantic Wire, Robertson claims that security guards in San Francisco warned him “about shaking hands because, in those days, certain AIDS-infected activists were deliberately trying to infect people like me by virtue of rings which would cut fingers and transfer blood.”

“All of this is surprising,” said Cooper last night, “because Robertson’s thoughts are very well thought out and very well articulated.”

Here are some of my faves:

“The flooding of New Orleans is a sign that God is tired of seeing his creation mocked by the Mardi Gras and its perverted display of debauchery and exposed breasts.”

“It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-biased media and the homosexuals who want to destroy all Christians”

And of course, the classic:

“The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.”

Hail the lesbians!
