Employment law website XpertHR has ranked the top 10 LGBT-employment friendly states based on marriage equality, workplace discrimination protections and benefits for same-sex partners.
The New England region boasts five of the top ten best places for America’s LGBT workers. New Hampshire was the only state in the area not to make the list.
California, New York, and Iowa were also among the selected locations.
“These states are leaders in safeguarding LGBTs against discrimination in the workplace—by passing gay rights ordinances, permitting same-sex marriage, providing benefits to same-sex partners, and/or outlawing hate crimes,” Peggy Carter-Ward, XpertHR’s Head of Content, wrote in a press release.
According to Legal Editor Beth P Zoller, the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was a major contributing factor in creating the list.
