On October 17, a new initiative will launch at the Irish Embassy to support London’s Irish LGBT citizens.
Charity group Mind Yourself is organizing the social group and the Ambassador of Ireland to Germany, Daniel Mulhall, is hosting the launch event.
“We are delighted that Ambassador Mulhall has agreed to host the launch of the group,” said Mind Yourself’s director Claire Barry in a press release.
“It is a very symbolic gesture for the LGBT community because many people felt forced out of Ireland because of their sexuality or gender identity. When they arrived in London they also faced discrimination in accessing services, both in Irish organizations and in mainstream services. The launch at the Embassy validates the rights of all citizens.”
At the ceremony, human rights activist Bernard Lynch, second generation poet Maureen Duffy, and Transgender Equality Network of Ireland Health and Education officer Vanessa Lacey will make speeches.
For future activities, the group plans to raise the rainbow flag at the London St. Patrick’s Day parade, conduct identity seminars in the London Irish LGBT community, monthly well-being sessions, and additional social activities.
