After sparking rumors of a wedding, Olympic superstar Abby Wambach confirmed via Twitter that she exchanged vows with soccer player Sarah Huffman. The intimate ceremony took place at the villas at Po’ipukai in Kauai, Hawaii on Saturday, October 5.
Days later, Wambash tweeted a special thanks to her fans for all of their support. “Sarah and I wanted to thank everyone for all the love and support. We couldn’t be happier. What an amazing week it’s been. #honeymoon,” the tweet read.
Talk of a marriage between the two began after the couple’s registry was discovered at TheKnot.com, according to Buzzfeed. Also, when Huffman tweeted a photo of her rainbow colored manicure back in August, fans quickly took notice of the big diamond on her ring finger.
The couple has reportedly been dating since as early as 2011, although Wambach never officially came out to the public. Huffman quietly came out when announcing her work with Athlete Ally—a gay rights group that combats homophobia in the sports industry.
Wambach, who’s full first name is Mary Abigail, is an American soccer player and two-time Olympic gold medalist, as well as the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year. Huffman signed with the Western New York Flash team in 2013, after helping former Pali Blues team win an undefeated season and the Western Conference championship title.
