1. “Fun Home”
Composer Jeanine Tesori and writer Lisa Kron have adapted Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel. It’s been lovingly directed by Sam Gold. It is the most talked-about musical of the New York theatre season. A lesbian looks back on her hoyden days with her closeted aesthete gay father who ran a funeral home and a mother who married such a man. Michael Cerveris plays the father. Stephen Sondheim even made a pilgrimage last week down to the East Village to catch a performance at The Public Theatre.
