By now it’s safe to say that most people with unrestricted access to the Internet have either seen or heard about the compelling “BRIDEGROOM” film, directed, written and produced by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and co-written by Shane Bitney Crone, who’s also a subject in the documentary. If you haven’t, however, here’s a quick run-through:
The documentary depicts the emotional journey of Shane Crone and Tom Bridegroom, two young men in a loving and committed relationship—one that was tragically cut short by a misstep off of the side of a roof. Crone, the surviving partner, documents the aftermath with a collection of video clips that make up the film. Prior to the film’s late October premiere on Netflix and OWN, the documentary already had a bundle of awards under its belt, including accolades from the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival.
Shortly after its online debut, the film is making headlines yet again, this time for the brand new music video “Beautiful Boy” by Oregon singer/songwriter Coleen McMahon, which serves as the theme song for the film’s promo clips. The song, full of melancholy lyrics like “Today you left me/you left me for Heaven” and “Young beautiful boy/making his way to the golden doors,” was originally uploaded onto Crone’s official YouTube page on May 6, 2012.
The music video for the song was released on Tuesday, November 5, and alternates between scenes of songwriter McMahon crooning behind her piano and photos from Bridegroom and Crone’s life together.
Released via the film’s Facebook page, the music video for “Beautiful Boy” can be seen below.
