1. “Two Boys”

Composer Nico Muhly’s and librettist Craig Lucas’s new opera “Two Boys” at The Metropolitan Opera. Director Bartlett Sher’s production is a triumph. A story, set in the computer age, of sex and intrigue and murder and, in the grand operatic tradition: mistaken identities and subterfuge. There is one more chance to catch a performance on Thursday November 14 at 8 p.m.

2. Snuff-colored Newent Suede Jodhpur Boots by Polo Ralph Lauren

Author Michael Sokolove’s new book “Drama High: The Incredible True Story of a Brilliant Teacher, A Struggling Town and the Magic of Theatre.” It is “Friday Night Lights” meets “Glee.” An uplifting narrative of how one teacher—Lou Volpe—has not only revolutionized the drama department at Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown, Pennsylvania, during the last 40 years of his career but has also, in the process, changed lives. Find it on Amazon.com here

5. The music of Vampire Weekend.

Where have I been? I met one of the band’s members this past week (after a performance of his friend Nico Muhly’s “Two Boys,” in fact) and went home to delve into Vampire Weekend’s own work. I’m a new fan.
