The All Chicago Gay Hockey Association is spreading lots of holiday cheer this month after releasing a video cover of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas.”
The video clip was filmed last month with the team’s own layered vocal track to accompany the instrumental, and the result seems a bit like a group of guys (and, like, two girls) had one too many on the night before Christmas and decided to try their luck for the gay ice capades. In other words—it was purely magical.
Just in time for promoting acceptance and love for the holidays, the video has already been viewed over 200,000 times since its debut on November 28. The video has been making media rounds as well; it was recently mentioned on comedian Daniel Tosh’s Tosh.0 blog and writer Dan Savage gave a nod to the clip via Twitter: “Another way the gay community ‘out-markets’ the Catholic Church (per Dolan): our viral videos are way more fun.”
Stephen Leonard—the video’s director and producer—told GoPride.com, “We’re all about having fun and inviting others to do the same, both on and off the ice.
“We want you to put aside your differences. And to spend some time getting closer to your family and friends. If you take a step back and look, you may surprise yourself with how much you have in common with people. The person next to you on the train could become your best friend. After all, aren’t we all just looking for love? Don’t forget to laugh a little. And sing a little. Happy Holidays y’all!”
