Remember when the Russian government was AGAINST the family unit?

The fact that Russia has a law against any kind of “propaganda,” let alone fears that a certain topic is a threat to families, is incredibly ironic. During the country’s communist days—which ended only a few decades ago—the country became famous for its heavy-handed, government-sponsored, deliberately anti-family propaganda.

Fun fact: in 1918, a schooling theorist declared, “We must rescue children from the harmful influence of the family.”

Sure puts government officials’ calls to “leave the children alone” in a new light, doesn’t it?

In this day and age, it seems like LGBT rights are moving forward almost every day—except in a few countries. Russia’s passage of the anti-gay law felt like a significant step backwards…so the Tumblr blog Pride Propaganda looked backwards, to the original Soviet propaganda posters.

And they made them fabulous.

The posters, via the simple addition of rainbows and change of text, implore viewers to show their pride.
