Tom Daley: “I’m a gay man now”

Olympic diver Tom Daley recently went on the UK TV show Celebrity Juice, hosted by Keith Lemon, and said: “I am a gay man now.”

“I came out on YouTube as I wanted to say what I wanted to say without anyone twisting it,” he said. “I told my family before I told the world. I was terrified. I did not know what the reaction was going to be.”

Following his coming out video in December 2013, when Daley implied he was bisexual, it was revealed that his boyfriend was, and still is, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

According to Daley when speaking with ITV’s Jonathon Ross, their relationship began when Daley “made the first move,” typing “‘call me’ in [Black’s] notes with a smiley face on his phone and the next day he texted.”

Daley has been recently nominated for Sports Personality of the Year in the inaugural “Gay Oscars,” alongside fellow Olympian Nicola Adams. The awards bring together LGBT celebrities and allies for a glitzy red carpet event at London’s Landmark Hotel on April 25.

The Celebrity Juice episode airs on Thursday April 3 at 10pm GMT on ITV2.
