The Met Gala, aka Costume Institute Gala, aka Met Ball, is described by many as the social event of the East Coast fashion season. The guest list is exclusive, the tickets are expensive, and the invisible judges of the inter webs are ready and waiting to tell the world who did it best, who did it worst, and who didn’t do it at all.
Held at the Met since 1971, the event serves as a fundraiser benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Chaired by the imposing Anna Wintour since 1995, this year’s theme in honor of the Institute’s upcoming exhibition celebrated the legacy of ball gown guru “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.”
We’ll leave the final judgement to those critics who care. Our compilation of photos above simply represents some of our favorite people in the biz, and regardless of what they decided to put on, we’ll be keeping up with them anyway.
