Ellen Page talks “X-Men” and how she feels after coming out

In an interview with “Good Morning America” on May 27, Ellen Page shared a bit about how awesome it’s been to play Shadowcat, aka Kitty Pryde, in the “X-Men” movies—and admitted that at first, she was uncertain about signing on.

She explained, “I had just graduated high school, and I had weirdly kind of taken some time off from acting and was just in a different space.”

Now, she reported, she’s very glad she accepted. Reprising her role as Kitty was fun, but more than that, as a current actress who is newly out, she’s been getting messages of support from fans all over.

“I don’t think I could even have anticipated how happy I feel,” she said. “And I couldn’t be more grateful for just the support I’ve had, and quite frankly for me, it was just pretty immediate and I felt like all this toxicity and worry and baggage that I was carrying just vanished…

“The reaction’s been really beautiful and I think it’s been so beautiful because to me it’s so indicative of the change that’s happened and how society has evolved.”

Directed by Brian Singer, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is the seventh installment in the franchise. After its opening on May 23, it earned $302 million over Memorial Day weekend.
