Givenchy’s spring/summer 2015 show was this weekend, and the models, whom creative director Riccardo Tisci calls “#family,” upstaged the clothes.
Sure, the designs were typical Givenchy—in any other context, that would have been okay. But this season, most designers tried to think outside the box and make bold statements. Tisci opted for the status quo.
There were a few anomalies, dresses that verged on bohemian chic, but for the most part the collection was business as usual. The real excitement came from the models, including Cara Delevingne, whose eyebrows were bleached out. Carine Roitfeld—muse to Gucci, Tom Ford, and pretty much every other major designer—styled the show brilliantly.
The best part was the thigh-high leather boots. The texture was so silky and buttery they looked painted onto the models’ lengthy legs. Pictures of the boots are flooding Instagram, anointing them the must-have shoe of the season.
It’s impossible to report on a show from Paris this season without mentioning the gravitational pull of North West and Kim Kardashian. At the Givenchy show, the pair were again in the spotlight, dressed in matching, sheer black Givency ensembles. They were accompanied by Kanye and Kris Jenner.
The collection will likely be well received in the retail market, and among Givency’s star-studded clientele. Lovers of innovation, however, should look elsewhere.
