Police Constable Mark Carter has been suspended from duty following an assault in which he headbutted a man in the toilets of The Thompsons Arms in Manchester’s gay village.
This isn’t the first time the officer—and former Mr. Gay UK—has been on the wrong side of the law. In 2009, he was accused of sexually assaulting three men and raping another in a Leeds hotel room. Carter told the jury he believed the men had willingly gone to his room with the desire to have sex. The jury agreed and returned verdicts of not guilty.
Following the trial, Carter was also charged with possessing anabolic steroids, but he told prosecutors these were strictly for medicinal purposes. Once again, the charges were dismissed.
He wasn’t so lucky this time. The price of headbutting a man he met on Facebook? Twelves months of community service, 250 hours of unpaid work, and £100 (approximately $156 USD) compensation to his victim.
