Next week, at the Métiers d’art collection in Salzburg, Karl Lagerfeld will debut “Reincarnation,” a seven-minute film starring Pharrell Williams and Cara Delevingne—and featuring a duet between the two called “CC the World.”
The film’s plot is part historical drama and part arthouse fairytale. Gabrielle Chanel (played by Geraldine Chaplin) is on holiday in Austria when she becomes obsessed with the jacket worn by her hotel’s elevator operator (Pharrell Williams). In a rapturous dream sequence, Pharrell is reincarnated as Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria, along with his wife Empress Elisabeth “Sisi” (Cara Delevingne). The pair dance to an imperial waltz soundtracked by Pharrell.
“There’s a touch of Pop Art in it,” Lagerfeld said in an interview with WWD. “It’s not meant to be a historical reconstruction or something heavy like that. This is light and funny.”
The film set, modeled after an Austrian hunting lodge with its abundant antler furniture, was constructed in French filimmaker Luc Besson’s Paris studios. In addition to Pharrell and Delevingne, the film also includes some 60 extras. Watch the teaser below.
