New Year, New Us: Five LA Cocktails We’re Dying to Try

In our new series, we explore the people, places, events, and things that we’re excited to try in the New Year. Hey, you’ve got to look forward to something, right?

Let’s face it: Of all the places in the continental U.S. you could choose to ring in the New Year, LA is probably the best. I’m not just saying that because I live there. I’m saying it because at 60 degrees and sunny, it sure as hell beats any other tortured January climate. And then, of course, there are the cocktails. Ah, the cocktails.

Our favorite libation writer Caroline on Crack has recently outlined a list of the best LA cocktails of the year. Out of that list, we’ve found a few that we’re especially excited about.

If you’ve ever wondered what Benedictine is and what a good use of it might look like, look no further than Hollywood’s Birch Restaurant and get yourself a boozy, blood orange-y #4 cocktail.

If you’re needing a mellow kind of pick-me-up, wander down to West Hollywood’s Gracias Madre and imbibe a “Stoney Negroni” cocktail infused with weed oil.

LA’s modest Belcampo Meat Co. chain might not be the first place you think of when it comes to drinks, but one sip of their Strawberry Hill cocktail and you’ll be fiending for more.

Ever wonder what sesame seeds, mushrooms, and bourbon have in common? It’s the Alice Waters cocktail at the Walker Inn, named after the legendary chef.

At Terrine in the Grove, you’ll find the coffee cocktail to end all coffee cocktails, featuring three kinds of booze and a warm, cozy finish.
