On this day exactly one year ago, this nation woke up to the news of the first great catastrophe of the year. What would follow, of course, was a year of catastrophes rolling into each other to form one great, final catastrophe that we’re still recovering from.
But let’s give credit where credit’s due. The shit storm started with the death of David Bowie.
We’re feeling a lot of things on the one-year anniversary of the Starman’s death–mainly residual pain, anger, and a deep, desperate hopelessness, coupled with the knowledge that things will never be the same. None of which is to say that we don’t have great memories of the man who defined so much of our lives for the short amount of time that we overlapped on this planet. Fans everywhere are getting emotional, and putting out some pretty beautiful work. We hereby present some of the best. Take heart! A true artist’s life on this earth lasts forever.
