Shia LaBeouf Becomes a Champion in the Anti-Trump Movement

Shia LaBeouf is turning himself around, it seems, and he’s starting with protesting the president. The actor hasn’t had the greatest few years on record. Wild antics, drunken misconduct, and outright bizarre behavior all around, the star has had a rough go at it. But with the announcement and commencement of his four year long livestreaming project, on January 20, 2017, the day of the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, entitled, “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US“, it seems he’s joined the chorus of courageous opposition.
“HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” invites the public to deliver those very words into a mounted camera living on a wall outside the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, New York. Participants are encouraged to repeat the phrase as many times, and for as long as they wish, empowering those who watch with the battle cry.

LaBeof isn’t new to the performing art and livestreaming game. His other projects have been bold and thought-provoking, but none so enlightened as this. Beginning with Jaden Smith as the first participant, this new project will heed many messages that go beyond the recommended chant, and create inspiration and division alike. In just the first few days of the livestream its already had it’s first white power promoter who repeated the phrase “14/88” in to the camera. Lucky, LaBeouf himself was there to shout down the young man in the Hitler Youth hat in a remarkably calm but authoritative manner. In spite of alt-right leaders getting punched on film, this project can perhaps reveal that with this vile president we can all emerge as civil and triumphant.

For clarity, the ‘fourteen words’ the man was referring to are: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children”. They were spoken by David Lane, the very man serving a life sentence for his part in the murder of a Jewish talk show host. The 88 is a reference to “Heil Hitler”, as H is the eighth letter in the alphabet.
In another bit of the livestream, LaBeouf attempts to grab a Pepe Frog sign (the meme now associated with white power) off of a man, before chasing him away.
