An Interior Designer’s Dream

The Pasadena Showcase House is back and this year, it’s bringing a little Hollywood flair. For those of you poor saps unaware of what this glorious spectacle entails, shame on you, get it together. The Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts has been a beloved tradition for the past 53 years showcasing not only lavish Pasadena homes but also the innovative and eclectic styles from multiple, incredibly talented interior designers from all over California.

Every year, the non-profit, all volunteer organization chooses an extravagant home to gut and completely redesign using only the color scheme given and the sheer raw talent of the interior designers lucky enough to participate. Each designer is assigned a room in the home and from there it’s up to them how they choose to showcase their expertise and aesthetic.

This year’s home is a 1916 English Tudor Revival that screams Hollywood glam. The PSHA decided to go a little smaller this year in terms of square footage, feeling that the 2-acre landscape would make up for the “puny” six bedroom, six bath, 7,479 sq. foot fixer upper with pool and badminton court. The home’s owner was a lawyer turned actor who appeared in over 200 films, and the house itself has also made many television and film appearances including Beaches, Mad Men and most recently La La Land.

During the event, the new and improved landscape is also utilized as a place for local vendors and pop up restaurants to lend their skills and services while also getting their name and product out to the public, creating a delicious and stylish win/win for the 30,000 attendees slated to visit

What makes this event so unique is who benefits from all the glitz and glam. Since 1948, PSHA has used the proceeds from the event to keep the arts alive and well amongst our youth. Over $20 million dollars has been donated in support of art and music based programs in the community.

Whether you’re an established designer, a curious enthusiast or just looking for some inspiration to spruce up the old abode, the Pasadena Showcase House is a great way to get a first hand look at some serious talent while helping out the tiny humans.
