Patricia Arquette is Pissed Alexis Was Left Out of Oscars Tribute

I don’t need to tell you that the Oscars was a shit show this year. From the fashion to the envelope flub to the inclusion of a living human in the ‘In Memoriam’ tribute, we basically saw the fiery demise of the entertainment world on full display in the 89th Academy Award ceremony on Sunday.

But let’s talk about the real problem here. Patricia Arquette is pissed the hell off and she’s not gonna take it anymore.

Last year, this world lost one of its most beautiful and purest gems, in the form of Alexis Arquette, who died at 47 from HIV-related complications. Arquette had a pretty wide-ranging and iconic film career from the 80s onward, and yet, when it came time for the Academy to present the cue-the-violins montage of lives we’ve lost in 2016, Arquette was blatantly omitted.

Well, you can imagine that Patricia, her sister, was not having that bullshit even slightly.

“I was really pissed off the academy left out my sister Alexis in the memoriam, because Alexis had a great body of work, but Alexis was one of very few trans artists that worked in the business.” Patricia told ABC after the ceremony. “At a time when we have trans kids that can’t even go to the bathroom at school, you would think the academy would have a little bit more respect for a group of people that are murdered, and trans women of color are most likely to live in extreme poverty, making $800 a month, so I think the Oscars have a lot of learning to do.”

Hear, hear, Patricia. We’re with you 100%. In a time when trans people are fighting a struggle for visibility, it’s important to remember our history, and the fighters we’ve lost along the way.
