Silicon Valley has long paid lip service to diversity and inclusion, often times falling short of the mark. Today, though, Yelp made small but real progress by adding a feature that filters for establishments with gender neutral bathrooms.
In the blog post announcing the move, Yelp defines a gender neutral bathroom as “accessible to persons of any gender and are a locking, single-stall bathroom.”
The release of the new option comes right after the company signed an amicus brief supporting Gavin Grimm, the trans student suing his school board for access to the bathroom matching his gender.
“At Yelp we thrive on inclusion and acceptance, and we hope that our support for Gavin’s case and the addition of this new business attribute will help our friends in the LGBTQQIA community.”
